Delivering our hospital

Where are we now?

Early Works for the new Maitland Hospital were completed in December 2019. Early Works involved:
  • Bulk earthworks;
  • Site establishment, clearance of vegetation, stabilisation and retention of surrounding native landscaping;
  • Connection of temporary and permanent services (water, sewer, power, gas, comms);
  • Associated in-ground infrastructure works, formation of building foundations, drainage works and excavation of sub-level structures;
  • Construction of internal un-sealed road ways and temporary construction parking zones.
Construction on the new Maitland Hospital is now well underway to deliver the following main works outcomes:
  • Construction of the new Hospital’s concrete structure, façade, entry arbour, and roof including the roof top helipad;
  • New loading dock, engineering services plant rooms, internal sealed roads, on grade car parking and pathways;
  • Internal fit out works, finishes and equipment installation including signage and wayfinding;
  • Landscaping to external areas and courtyards;
  • An upgrade of the existing Chelmsford Road / Metford Road roundabout.
This is an extremely exciting time for Maitland and the Lower Hunter region, with the project to open to the community in early 2022

There are a number of stages in planning, designing and building a new hospital. The video above explains the process, with every project tailored to a community’s unique requirements. Read more about each of the stages in this process.

The new Maitland Hospital is being delivered by an Integrated Project Team comprising of Health Infrastructure, Hunter New England Health, consultants, consumers, and community members.
Planning for the new Maitland Hospital is a collaborative process involving clinicians and other staff, patients and their carers, local stakeholders, and the community. This consultation will continue throughout the life of the project.
