New Maitland Hospital Reaches The Top

The NSW Government’s $470 million new Maitland Hospital has reached its highest point of construction, marking a major milestone for the project.

Members of the Integrated Project Team were joined by Michael DiRienzo, Chief Executive, Hunter New England Local Health District Chief Executive, Gillian Geraghty, Executive Director Rural and Regional, Health Infrastructure and Minister for Mental Health, Regional Youth and Women, the Honorary Bronnie Taylor to mark the occasion.

A native water gum tree was craned onto the roof in a topping out ceremony, a tradition said to bring good luck to occupants of the hospital. The tree will be planted on the hospital grounds as part of the landscaping package.

A number of local contractors have contributed significantly to this project, paving the way for the commencement of the fit out of the floors and bringing the departments in the new facility to life.

Almost 5000 new jobs are being created as a direct result of work on the project. This includes opportunities generated through the Maitland Connectivity Centre, run by Multiplex Constructions in partnership with the NSW Government.
